The story behind it

In January 2026, Rieke died suddenly. She was my parents' Goldendoodle, and Marianne and Herbert miss her every day. She lived with them on the North Sea island of Föhr where she now rests in a corner of the garden that my father tends, with tulips, a lantern, and her photo.

This strip was Herbert's idea. He suggested that Max should get a visit from Rieke from dog heaven, but that she would have to go back after an hour. The garden in the strip is my parents' real garden, the memorial is the real one my father built, and the tulips are the ones he planted for her.

For Herbert, from Max.
